Over the years, I’ve come to realize that making New Year’s resolutions to lose weight, save money, find a new job, or embark on any other change that you think will make you better, is very much a waste of time. Most people quit the gym after a few months, forget to put away money or give up on the job search. This is because most of us aren’t ready to make a change and don’t have the groundwork to create better versions of ourselves. So this year, let’s make some resolutions that will help us become better individuals and help guide us through whatever life throws at us.
Here are 5 resolutions you can make that will help you create change in your life…
- Become more embracing. Whether it’s something you don’t agree with, or maybe a curveball that life has thrown at you, accept it. Then, you can look at what changes you need to make to improve the situation; if any. Sometimes we also have to accept things that we cannot change.
- Let go of things. This could be a grudge, a relationship or even physical belongings. Many of us hold on to things that only weigh us down or create clutter. Let go and allow yourself freedom and more space to grow.
- Give thanks. Sometimes, sending out a simple thank you card, or sitting down and taking some time to appreciate all we have can be extremely peaceful.
- Treasure moments. Stop what you’re doing, take a few deep breaths and slow down. This also means stepping away from our phones, computers or other distractions that are keeping us from appreciating the things around us. If you’re with family and friends, create memories and enjoy your time together.
- Always do your best. Instead of saying you’ll lose weight, exercise more, or spend less money, just do your best with what you’ve got to make changes or to accomplish tasks. This way, you’ll know that there’s nothing more that you could have done to make the situation better.
Do things differently this year. Make resolutions that matter and will help you become a better version of YOU!
